NJ.com: Andy Pettitte agrees to one-year, $12 million contract with Yankees for 2013 season

The Yankees and Andy Pettitte have come to terms on a one-year contract, general manager Brian Cashman confirmed this afternoon. The deal is reportedly worth $12 million plus incentives. Pettitte, 40, pitched for $2.5 million last season.

It's official.  Who knew that pitching 75 innings could help you earn 10 times as much as you did the prior season?

Yanks DFA Eli Whiteside, further clouding the catcher situation.

I was just warming up to the idea of Eli Whiteside, starting catcher.

The Sox sold off a bunch of spare parts today, I wonder what they're up to.

Rule 5 draft and roster crunch I think. Rather than risk losing guys they couldn't protect for nothing, try to get some sort of value for them.

BJ Upton to the Braves, 5yr/70-75m. How many years will Swish, who's four years older, get? And at what AAV?

So I guess we can say the Red Sox officially received next to nothing for Youkilis now, unless the PTBNL they just got for Zach Stewart winds up being Andrew McCutchen.

Will Piazza be elected to the HOF in his first year of eligibility?

Who knows, I hope so. Dude was a hell of a hitter.

Combining several comments into one so I don't have to prove myself...

Whiteside will probably clear waivers and end up in AAA still. He was always (IMHO) depth. I think people forget sometimes how hard it can be to find a quality catcher if you get a couple of injuries to your major-league players. So Cashman is trying to be proactive to make sure they don't get in a case where they're STARTING a sub-replacement level catcher in June.

A little surprised Upton got that much. But I think it goes to show he's a valuable commodity. Upset the Yankees didn't get him, but glad they didn't outbid the Braves. Swish will probably get similar.

My bet on Piazza is no. As good as he was, I don't know if he's an inner-circle HOF. For example, FanGraphs has him as the 7th best catcher all time; 6th if you remove Torre. But I could also see an argument for moving Dickey ahead of him (2 lost years for WW2, World Series). Add that to steriod suspician and the backlog of qualified HOF candidates...not saying he isn't clearly deserving, just that I don't think he'll get in first crack. Within 5 years though.

Okay SG, how much do we have to send you to get a reliable server? I'd be willing to pony some $$ up.

I second this. Partially because my inability to prove that I am not a robot is making worry that I actually am a robot.

Notice we haven't heard from Snuggles, whom we always suspected was at least 1/2 bot.

Yes, where do we send money to get the old (new) site back?

Also, Martin might be seeking 4 years at $9M-$10M per but it sounds like the only offer he has is from the Pirates, and the highest it might be is 3 years $22M. If they can get him back on the 3 years $24M they offered last off-season, I'm on board. If not, turn it over to the cheap in house folks and use the savings on a RHH platoon OFer. (I'm assuming the "deep love" between Ichiro and the Yankees will eventually turn that mythical $5 "nearly one season" deal into reality)

I just haven't had time to fix the site yet due to real life work. I've tried re-instating it since it appears to be up again but I just get an error that the site is not available.

I have found a new host, I just haven't moved the site yet and I'm also debating a re-design (a switch to Wordpress). But I'm not sure how much work that is.

I'm hopeful things will calm down in the next few weeks. I figure the Yankees ain't making any real news anyway.

I will go to my robot account in my robot bank to contribute robotically to a better site.

Also, if it helps, bring back the Evony ads and we promise to click on them this time. Additionally, I think we can talk Pin into buying another commemorative coin if necessary, or maybe selling the original, and now presumably priceless, commemorative coin to fund the new site.

I'm quite sure the original has appreciated considerably. It is the cornerstone of my retirement plans.

It made me hungry too, so I went and got a different form of Jewish food: Chinese.

I've been hungry ever since someone mentioned Pizza and the Hall of Fame.

If Piazza and Clemens get in will Roger throw one under his chin?
